Official exchange rate

The Bank of Albania implements a free exchange rate regime.

The value of lec versus foreign currencies is freely determined in the currency exchange market. Exchange rate fluctuations reflect the free movement of goods and capital in Albania's trade and financial exchanges with its trading partners.

Without censoring the regime of a free exchange rate, the Bank of Albania can carry out actions in the currency market with the aim of adapting the exchange rate to the level defined by basic macroeconomic factors, avoiding disorders and increasing or lowering the currency reserve.

The Bank of Albania calculates the official exchange rate as well as the average value of purchase (bid price) and sale (ask price) prices for euro and US dollar currencies, based on standardized quotas of participants, in the interbank market, during the time interval 11.30-12.00.
