Ayatollah al-Kursi, according to the order of mushaf, is the 2nd chapter of the Holy Qur'an. It is the 255th verse of the Sūrah of al-Baqara, which is the Sūrah. It is of course not a coincidence that the verse, which has been customary to be read on various occasions depending on various demands and wishes, is so known and read among the people.
THE REASON FOR AYAT AL-KURSI
The polytheists abandoned the belief in tawheed, worshipped idols and believed that they would be intercessors for them, and although they said that they believed in Allah Ta'ala, they denied their attributes belonging to His divinity. Although many verses proving the belief in tawheed were revealed during the Meccan period, the Ayatollah al-Kursi was revealed in the early years of the Medinan period in order to declare the correct belief in Allah Ta'ala in the form of a declaration and to summarize the common meaning of the tawheed verses that had come down in Mecca. (al-Murshidi, vr:27/A)
According to another narration, this great verse was revealed after a story told by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). This narrative is included in our sources as follows:
Abu Hurayrah (Radıyallâhu Anh) narrated: "I listened to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and he was telling the news from the Prophet Musa (Alaihisselâm) on his pulpit. The Israelites said to the Prophet Moses: 'O Moses! Is your Lord sleeping?' The Prophet Moses said to them: "Beware of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)," and tried to forbid them from such questions. Then Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sent an angel to Moses (peace be upon him). Three days and three nights made her not sleep. Then he gave her two bottles. Each of them had one hand. He ordered him to protect them. From time to time, Moses would sleep, and when his hands approached each other in such a way that they would be struck against each other, he would wake up and push them apart. Eventually, he slept touching the bottles together and broke the bottles. Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) revealed to Moses (peace be upon him): 'If I had slept, the heavens and the earth would have fallen and perished as two glasses would have fallen from your hand destroyed.'" Ayatollah al-Kursi was revealed after the narration of this story. (Alusi, 2/8-9; Ali Arslan, 2/227-239)
ON THE NAMING OF THE VERSE
In our sources, it is mentioned that Ayatollah al-Kursi had about forty names; however, based on the word "Kürsi" in his possession, he was more often referred to as such, and this name became widespread among the people. It is stated that there are about 90 names of the verse. Each of these nomenclatures originated from the different elements in the content of the verse. "Ayatü'l-Kürsî, Sûretü'l-Kürsî, A'zamu'l-Âyât, Âyetü't-Tawheed, Âyetü Sıfatillah ve Na'tillah, al-Âyetü'l-Hâfiza, al-Âyetü'l-Velâye..." Such names are some of the names of this great verse. (Ali Muslu, pp. 47-49; Nazilli Muhammad Hakki, pp. 126-139)
SUBJECTS OF VERSE AL-KURSI
This verse, which consists of ten sentences, is the intertwining mention of the sciences of tawheed (proving the unity of Allah Ta'ala), ahkam (rulings, commandments and nehiys) and kisas (about parables), which are the prominent features of the Holy Qur'an. In Ayatollah al-Kursi, it is possible to see this feature of the Holy Qur'an as a summary of the mushaf.
According to this, this great verse; The unity of Allah covers issues such as the fact that He is true alive (Hayy), that He is a Qayyum (Qayyum) with His person, that Allah Ta'ala is completely far from the attributes of the creatures and their likeness, that all that is created is at His disposal, that no one can intercede without His permission, that His knowledge encompasses everything without exception, that His power covers all that is in the heavens and supplies, and that His greatness and greatness are all that are in the heavens. These issues also form the basis of "Tawheed", that is, faith in Allah Ta'ala.
The main factor that makes Ayatollah al-Kursi valuable above all is the content it has, which we have tried to summarize briefly. When we look at this content, it can even be said that "Even if Allah had revealed only the Ayatollah al-Kursi, it alone would have been sufficient for the salvation of all humanity." Based on these characteristics, it was clearly declared by our Prophet that the Ayatollah al-Kursi is the greatest verse of the Holy Qur'an. The hadiths related to this subject will be presented under the title where we will include the virtues of the verse in the future.
Allah Ta'ala has 99 names known as Asma'u'l-Husna and many other names and attributes. Among all of these, the nomenclature "Allah", which is called "Lafzâtullâh", has a special place and importance. Ayatollah al-Kursi has gained great value in terms of starting with this name and declaring the most basic characteristics of this name. Although there are different narrations and opinions about what the "Name-i Âzâm" is, which is stated to be the biggest name, it should be reminded that this is not known for sure and that it has been hidden due to some wisdom. In this great verse, the name of Allah Ta'ala (with pronouns) is mentioned seventeen times, in secret (somehow) and openly.
It is for Allah Ta'ala to draw attention to many issues one after another, for the hearts of the interlocutors to awaken again and again, and for each issue to be reopened. Those who have made it their habit to read the Ayatollah al-Kursi experience this intensity of emotion every time they read it.
