An atsar or word of companions recited to the Prophet Muhammad states "The Verse of the Chair is given to your Prophet from the depository which is under Arsy, and is not given to any one before". This atsar was delivered by Ali from Abu Ubaid.
Meanwhile, Shaikh ibn Baz rahimahullah said, The Verse of the Chair is a great verse. This verse has primacy in the book of Allah and contains an element of obedience and sincerity to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And, if the Verse of the Chair is read after every prayer, then the person who reads it will be awake from evil including when it is read when it is about to sleep.
The reading of the Chair Verse or surah Al Baqarah verse 255 is as follows:
Latin reading: "Allohu laa ilaaha illaa Huwal Hayyul Qoyyuum, laa ta'khudzuhuu sinatuw walaa nauum, la Huu maa fis samawaati wa maa fil ardh, mann dzalladzii yasyfa'u 'inda Huu, illa bi idznih, ya'lamu maa bayna aidiihim wa maa kholfahum, wa laa yuhiituuna bisyayim min 'ilmi Hii illaa bi maa syaa', wa si'a kursiyyuus samaawaati walardh, wa laa yauudlu Huu hifdzuhumaa,wa Huwal 'aliyyul 'adziiim"
It means: "God, there is no God (who has the right to be worshipped) but he who lives eternally again constantly taking care of (His creatures); not sleepy and not sleeping. His possession is what is in the heavens and on the earth. No one can intercede on God's side without His permission? God knows nothing before them and behind them, and they know nothing from the knowledge of God but what He wants. The seat of God covers the heavens and the earth. And Allah does not feel the weight of keeping both, and Allah is all-high again most great." (QS. Al Baqoroh: 255)
The virtues of the Chair verse, practicing it into a worship activity that is beneficial for the good of every Muslim. The recitation of the Chair verse is also not long so it is easier to memorize.
In addition, every Muslim who wants to practice the reading of the Chair Verse needs to understand at any time the time it is chanted so that it can gain its primacy. Here are the virtues that can be achieved:
1. As a testament to go to heaven
This primacy is obtained by reading the Verse of the Chair at the completion of each obligatory prayer. Therefore, do not miss to think, pray, and not miss the recitation of the Chair Verse after the greeting at prayer.
From Abu Umamah radhiyallahu anhu, the Messenger of Allaah sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam said: "Whoever reads the Verse of the Chair every time he finishes the obligatory prayer, then nothing prevents him from going to heaven but death." (HR. An Nasâi)
2. Getting God's care at bedtime
Every Muslim who reads the Verse of the Chair before falling asleep at night, will get a guarantee of guard from Allah. Satan was unable to tempt him until dawn came.
As quoted by the Ministry of Religion's Lajnah Library, a hadith came from Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu anhu. He said, "The Messenger of Allah assigned me to keep zakat in the month of Ramadan. Then someone came to me and stole from the food (zakat)...."
At the end of the hadith, the thief says: "If you are going to sleep, then read the 'Chair Verse' because the guard from Allah will continue to be with you and satan will not approach you until Dawn". Then the Prophet said: "He has said right to you, even though he is a liar. He is a demon." [HR al-Bukhâri, 2311].
3. Protect Muslims throughout the day if read in the morning and evening
Ayat Kursi also serves as a protector for every Muslim who reads in the morning and evening as part of the dhikr. If he is read in the morning, then he is protected by God until the evening. If it is read in the afternoon, then God protects it until the morning.
The basis of his claim refers to the hadith of Ubay bin Ka'ab, that the Messenger of Allaah sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam said, ""Whoever reads it in the morning, then he will be protected (by Allah from various disturbances) until evening. Whoever reads it in the evening, then he will be protected until the morning." (HR. Al Hakim 1: 562. Shaikh Al Albani narrated the hadith in Shahih At-Targhib wa At-Tarhib no. 655).
